ANOTHER update from Sandra:

Melissa, I snuck out to the pen today to see Sinatra and give Apache and my girl Kgin a scratch. Sinatra is the freindliest horse. He followed me around asking for loves and scratches(of course how could I turn him down) Pat told me yesterday when he cleaned the pen he had fed and grained first and Sinatra left his grain to follow him around the entire time he cleaned. i don't understand who could abandon such a love of a horse.

lucky, lucky Sinatra!

I just got an update from Sandra:

Soon after we brought him home I noticed a wobble in his left front knee and I contacted Pat's sister, a vet in canada, and sent her videos of it. She suggested to give a month to rest it was hurting him. We thought perhaps he was kicked in the pen at the feedlot and sent him to the 12 acre pasture in Battleground to take some R and R. It seemed to get better a little until last night. We took him to the arena so that Pat could ride him during drill practice (husband does not ride hard at all) and after about 20 min. of walking and trotting both knees were wobbly and he almost went down. I am going to have a local vet take a look at him.

Now we're just waiting on pins and needles to hear the vet report....

The post-vet report is in:

OK just got back from the vet with Blu. First let me say he stays.

I can work with what he has and the outcome is that the vet wants me to condition him to build his front legs stronger. So instead of bed rest he is going to be a tag along everywhere Pat and I go. Pat is going to have to learn how to pony another horse with Lakota so I can bring Trinket and Payton along when I am riding Apache. His body conformation is such that he is over his front legs wrong and the result is that the knees never fully lock. He is not lame in any such way. She did all the flex tests and such with him and he passed with flying colors(plus everyone adored his big blue eyes; ladies man).

What is happening is because his knees do not fully lock the muscles in his legs are what holds them there and thus when he gets lazy/tired the slight wobble which is more prevalent whe he is tired. I think when he started to go down the other night at the arena it was because of a slight case of colic which Pat walked him out of it not because of the wobble in his knees. There is no cure for conformation but we can strengthen his legs and make the wobble less visible over time. So beautiful Blu stays and will continue to earn his keep and break the ladies hearts.

Sandra
