Sam got an update on Max.... it's well worth the time to read!  Couldn't be happier for this guy.

Hi Samantha-
Just wanted to tell you how Max is doing!

After we loaded him up we got right on the road and headed home. We had a little car trouble on the pass but kept going and made the late ferry home. Max was wonderful the whole way. He trailered quiet and was polite when I had to get in and mess with him. Once we got on the west side of the mountains it got chilly and he started to shiver so I got my blanket out and put it on him while he was in the trailer. He was quiet the whole process and didn't move a muscle, even when I was attaching the straps through his back legs. Nice boy! We got him home around 9:30 that night safe and sound.

We gave him a few days to relax with pats and loves from us, just letting him know we were trustworthy and we were not going to hurt him. He seems to be very wary of you at first, watching you all the time like "what are you doing...are you going to hurt me?" then once he sees your not, he relaxes and will stand for literally hours being fussed with. (I think he secretly likes it!)

The vet came out last Monday and gave him his vaccinations and a check up and everything came back clear. He's got a clean bill of health.

I have ridden him a few times now in the field and were getting well acquainted with each other. Yesterday I took him out for the first time for a trail ride. Wow what a big mover this boy is! He steps out real nice, has a great little jog and a canter to knock your socks off! It's like riding a carousel horse! Noah has had two riding lessons with Max so far and they are bonding fast. Max is starting to follow Noah around while he fusses with his hay and water and the fencing. Very cool to see them growing together. Noah even decided to set up the tent by the pasture! We have camped out there a few nights so Noah cam visit Max in the morning. Wow right?,like dreamy for me!

Anyway I just thought you would like to know that we are loving up on that big guy like nothing else. He is great, so well mannered and making good progress on his trust issue. I think he was cowboyed pretty hard. I can tell at some point he was trained right, he is very sensitive and light, neck reins and gives to leg pressure, but then maybe passed on to someone who rode him like a tractor. He's just not a hard minded horse who can take that without damage. Oh well, it's all behind him now.

Noah and I wanted to thank you so much for facilitating us finding him and bringing us together. There is a wonderful relationship developing and a bright future for us all that would not have been but for you and the people you work with. Thank you so much and please continue! There are so many nice horses out there and I couldn't imagine others like Max being wasted. Someone told me it was a hash mark in heaven for us, saving a horse. You guys must have a whole wall of hash marks by now! Right on!

Well the last thing is to tell you we altered his name a bit. Instead of Maxamillion, we decided it should be Maximus. He is so proud and big and regal, we thought he looks like a Roman war horse for a King or an Emperor to ride into battle on so Maximus it is and Max for short.

That's it for now and thanks again. We are all happy on this end. Please feel free to call or write and check up on us any time and if you are ever up this way stop in for a visit and a ride!

Very Sincerely, Moragan, Noah, Waz, Max and Elzick
