Update from Apaches new mama:

We made it back with the horses last night at 2am. All of us were tired included the two new kids(my horses are my children). I had taken my drill horse and our rescue out to a pasture at a friends house to quarantine Scooter and Apache. I could not take my yearling colt however because he wants to mount the girls so he will just have to stay with the new horses(he was given to me, the owner had too many babies and did not want to feed him). Anyhow We put Scooter in the pen with the little Arab yearling and they became instant best friends. When we got up in the morning, the two of them were itching shoulders and playing with each other. Later I saw Booger(the arab) laying down and Scooter watching over him.

Looking at the two paints, I can see I have a lot of clean up work to do but nothing I have not done before. Apache is already getting her mane straightened out and Scooter is all over us with love and curiousity. Pat is in love with him. We have an apple tree so treats are always close at hand and both the horses were instantly all over us for the grain. I hope to have some fresh pictures for you to see in a little bit.

Thank you for everything.

I got a new update on Apache!

Hi Melissa I thought you might like an update on Apache. I rode her today. I have been ground driving and lunging her for the past few days. She did not like the pressure on the bit at all and did not want to give but when I attached the reigns to the halter she got happy and flexed her neck to turn and did really well. we trotted both directions in circles using legs cues with the reigns to start getting her used to them. She seemed very comfortable having a rider the entire time.

They are both spoiled. Pat has to ride home on a bike as part of his commute and he passes an apple tree every day. He stops and collects enough apples for all horses each evening. So apple treats with the carrots and grain.

Sandra

Apache update:

Apache has been to drill practice twice now and is adjusting to her new (drill) friends. She is walking and trotting fairly well with just a little naughty but I would expect that because I am starting to ask her to think more. She is doing basic drill patterns at a walk/trot and learning to get along with the other drill horses because eventually she will be cantering those patterns in tight quarters with those other horses. also I have been working with her and the snaffle bit and she is accepting it now and learning to give to it.

Another great Apache update:

Apache is worth her weight in gold. Pat rode her on a short trail ride and she was fabulous. She is so smart and took great care of my beginner husband. In drill she is picking everything up incredibly fast and starting to move nicely off of my legs.  I can also get her to canter for me both directions now.

Way to go Apache!!
Mama and Papa need you to be an especially good girl now!
